Cycling in Apulia

The German winter is long. And we are impatient to get started with the cycling season. Once again we review the map of southern Europe, looking for a land of early spring sunshine and mild temperatures, not too hilly and not too flat, good food....  We decide on Apulia, southern Italy, the heel of the boot (see map below).

I'm not terribly keen on long car trips but in this case taking the car with the bicycle rack seems to be the best solution. By train from Munich it would be a long ride with many changes.

We decide to make it a liesurely trip with a couple of stops in between, visiting a friend in South Tyrol and stopping off in Florence and Assisi on the way. Once in Apulia, we expect it shouldn't be too difficult to find a Bed & Breakfast where we can safely leave our car for a few weeks while we cycle.

And that is exactly what we did.

We set out on our bikes from where we left our car parked near Castel del Monte, traveling counter-clockwise. The loop was about 750 km long.
